  4. What is it?
  5.  
  6. The Macro Recorder that comes with Windows slows down power
  7. typists (like me).  I needed something that would type out long
  8. strings of keystrokes at the press of only one or two keys.  Macro
  9. Manager is what I came up with.
  10.  
  11. The program uses a two key macro entry system.  You press a trigger
  12. key (user-defined), followed by a letter or number.  Keystrokes
  13. you have assigned to that letter or number are sent to any Windows
  14. application.
  15.  
  16. For example, if the trigger is the keypad * and you have set up
  17. Macro A as your address, pressing *A will type out your address
  18. in whatever Windows program is running.
  19.  
  20. The two key entry system prevents Macro Manager from interfering
  21. with keystrokes used by your other Windows applications.

  24. It is recommended you click on "Tutorial" the first time you run
  25. the program.  The tutorial will show you Macro Manager's basic
  26. features.

  30. HOW TO INSTALL
  31.  
  32. 1)    If you are upgrading from the Shareware version, you don't need
  33.     to do anything except unzip the file MACROMAN.ZIP into the
  34.     same directory as the shareware version.  Add an icon
  35.     for Macro Manager to Program Manager or Norton Desktop.
  36.  
  37. 2)    If you are installilng the program for the first time,
  38.     copy the file SBCKBD.VBX into your \Windows\System 
  39.     directory.  Add a Program Manger icon for the program.
  40.     The Shareware version is called "Macshare.exe," the 
  41.     registered version is called "Macroman.exe."

  43. REMEMBER: VBRUN300.DLL MUST BE IN YOUR WINDOWS or WINDOWS\SYSTEM
  44. DIRECTORY FOR MACRO MANAGER TO RUN!

  49. NOTE!!!!
  50. If you are using the version of the program obtained from the
  51. WINSHARE Forum on CompuServe it is recommended you completely
  52. delete the old version and re-install the new.  Be sure to delete
  53. the file "SBCKBD.VBX" from your \Windows\System directory and
  54. replace it with the new version included here.  The version on
  55. WinShare is the original version.  I have made numerous attempts
  56. to get the SYSOP to place the updated version on that board but
  57. it has been to no avail.

  62. IMPROVEMENTS
  63.  
  64. The following improvements have been made since the first 
  65. version was released.  They are fully incorporated in the
  66. registered and shareware versions.  These improvements are more
  67. fully described in the HELP file.

  69. 6/94 *** VERSION 5.0 *** ----------------------------------------

  71. EZ-EDIT full-screen macro editor added.  EZ-Edit can automatically 
  72. insert special codes, and automatically converts text pasted from
  73. the clipboard to Macro Manager format.

  75. Sample macros included: TUTOR.MAC (for the tutorial), WORDPERF.MAC (for
  76. WordPerfect for Windows), MSWORD.MAC (for Microsoft Word) and VB.MAC (for
  77. Microsoft Visual Basic).

  81. A tutorial has been added for beginning users.

  93. A bug which caused a trigger key not to work after a new macro was
  94. defined has been fixed.

  96. New special keys have been added.  They are:
  97.  
  98.   {ld}    long date
  99.   {sd}  short date
  100.   {md}  medium date
  101.   {lt}  long time
  102.   {mt}  medium time
  103.   {st}  short time
  104.   {wd}  weekday
  105.  
  106. These keys insert the date, time and day of the week in several
  107. formats, as defined in the "International" section of the Windows
  108. control panel.
  109.  
  110. The word {pause} in braces can now be used to insert a pause in
  111. addition to the {|} keystrokes.  The PAUSE window now shows the 
  112. entire macro string (with all special keys processed), 
  113. instead of only the keys through the point at which the pause
  114. was encountered.  The PAUSE window also shows the expanded keystrokes
  115. for special keys.  For example, it will now show "3/15/94" instead of
  116. {!}.

  118. The speed of the processing of special keys has been improved.
  119.  
  120. Code that prevented multiple copies of Macro Manager from running
  121. simultaneously has been removed.  This means you can run several
  122. copies, each using a different trigger key.  For example, if you
  123. run four copies, each using one of the four trigger keys, you
  124. can have up to 104 macros (you can still only have 10 global macros,
  125. however).  NOTE: Results are unpredictable if you load several
  126. copies of Manager Manager with each using the same trigger keys.  Each
  127. additional copy of Macro Manager uses a minimal amount of memory 
  128. since each copy shares the same DLL's (Dynamic Link Libraries).

  130. Error trapping for improper special keys has been improved.
  131.  
  132. Macro Manager's caption now turns into "MM" when the icon is minimized.  
  133. This was done in response to laptop users who complained the icon caption
  134. took up too much space.
  135.  
  136. NOTE: Macro Manager still does not intercept keystrokes when CAPS-LOCK
  137. is pressed.  Many users have said they use SHIFT-LOCK to temporarily
  138. disable Macro Manager (rather than using DISABLE).  Others, however,
  139. want Macro Manager to work when CAPS LOCK is on, and that feature will
  140. be added to future versions.  In other words, if you're using CAPS LOCK
  141. to disable Macro Manager, get used to using the "Disable" feature
  142. instead because future versions of Macro Manager will support CAPS LOCK.

  146. The keys that trigger macro playback are now user-defined.  You can
  147. choose any of the following keys, or combinations thereof: Keyboard 
  148. slash (/), Keypad slash (/), Keypad star (*) or Keyboard accent (`).
  149.  
  150. The position of the Macro playback window is now user-defined.
  151.  
  152. Macro nesting is now supported via use of the "Safety" feature.  See
  153. the help file for more information.

  157.  
  158. The <F>ile menu now contains an option called "Print macro list."
  159. This does precisely what its name implies, i.e. prints a list of
  160. the current macros.  This option is useful once most of your 
  161. macros for a particular job are set and you want a handy reference
  162. sheet.  This listing takes up a full page.
  163.  
  164. The <F>ile menu now contains an option called "Print form."  This
  165. prints out the Macro Manager form as it appears on your screen.
  166. This creates a smaller listing, taking up about half a page.
  167.  
  168. TIP:    Printing a list and then minimizing macro manager once it
  169.     has started running GREATLY speeds up the rate at which
  170.     your macros are typed to your application.
  171.  
  172. The program now supports macro keys 0-9 as global macros.  Global
  173. macros are available at any time, regardless of what macro file is
  174. loaded.  They are saved in a separate file called "GLOBAL.MAC." 
  175. Use the global macros for macros that you want to be able to use
  176. in any job.
  177.  
  178. The program now incorporates pauses.  To insert a pause into a macro
  179. insert the keystrokes "{|}" (open brace, vertical bar, close brace) [or
  180. "{pause}" 3/94].
  181.  
  182. Whenever Macro Manager encounters a pause instruction it stops and
  183. asks you to type in text from the keyboard.  Pressing <ENTER> stops
  184. the pause (to actually insert <ENTER> into the paused macro, use the
  185. "~" (tilde) key.  You can have as many pauses as you want in a macro.
  186. The keystrokes are not sent to the application until after the last
  187. pause (Macro Manager shows you what keys have been typed so far) [all
  188. keystrokes are shown, 3/94].
  189.  
  190. NOTE: Terminating the program from which Macro Manager was invoked 
  191. during a pause can cause unpredictable results.
  192.  
  193. The program can now insert dates as part of a macro.  See the 3/94
  194. notes for more information.
  195.  
  196. The program now supports a numeric counter.
  197. The keys "{#}" (open brace, pound key, close brace) in a macro 
  198. are replaced with the value of the numeric counter.
  199.  
  200. The numeric counter is useful for macros that contain numbered 
  201. lists.  For example, the following macro prints a number, waits for 
  202. input and then types the item into a list.

  204.      {#}.  {|}.~
  205.  
  206. Playing this macro three times might result in the following:
  207.  
  208.      1. Item one
  209.      2. Item two
  210.      3. Item three
  211.  
  212. The "Counter Value" box contains the next value that will be output 
  213. by the counter.  To change that value, simply click on the box and 
  214. type in a new value.
  215.  
  216. The "Increment" box contains the amount to add to the counter 
  217. each time.
  218.  
  219. NOTE: The counter value and increment value can be fractional or 
  220. negative.  For example, typing 1.1 in the counter box and .2 in the 
  221. increment box produces the following output: 1.1, 1.3, 1.5, 1.7 
  222. etc.  Typing -1 in the increment box produces the following output: 
  223. 1, 0, -1, -2, -3 etc.

  225. CAUTION: If you type a non-number in the "Counter Value" box, 
  226. that text will be output the first time {#} is encountered.  After that, 
  227. the value will increment normally from zero.  Typing a non-number 
  228. or 0 in the increment box causes the counter to stay the same.  
  229. For example: a value of 1 in "Counter Value" and a 0 in the 
  230. increment box produces the following output: 1, 1, 1, 1, etc.
